Titanic:  The Artifact exhibition starting June 19

Festival d’été international de Québec, in collaboration with Serge Grimaux and Premier Exhibitions Inc. announced today the presentation of TITANIC: THE ARTIFACT EXHIBITION. Located in the Espace 400e Pavilion at the Port of Québec, this outstanding Exhibition, which has toured the world, will open to the public starting June 19.

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition proposes a visit through the re-created decors of the world’s most celebrated ocean liner, in which artifacts recovered from the depths of the ocean have regained their rightful place. These artifacts from yesterday tell the tragic story of Titanic which lies at a depth of more than 3,843 m feet at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

Together, the re-created decors, the recovered artifacts, the photos of the period and the passengers who sailed aboard Titanic tell the story of this marvel of technology from the beginning of the 20th century, its tragic sinking and the scientific exploits accomplished in finding the wreck and arranging the recovery expeditions.

“Presented in several of the world’s major cities in recent years, TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition has been seen by over 22 million visitors to date. Much more than an exhibition, it is an unforgettable experience that is as entertaining as it is educational. This event is a perfect example of the new medium known as ‘edutainment’ ! You might say that the time has come for the world’s most famous ship to dock in the Port of Québec!” concluded Serge Grimaux.

Cirque du Soleil presents Totem in Québec city

Source:  Cirque du Soleil

Cirque du soleil

Totem

July 22 to August 29, 2010

TOTEM traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations.

Inspired by many founding myths, TOTEM illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species.

Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.

The Image Mills

June 22 to September 2010
Quebec Old-Port

You will be able to see The Image Mill from June 22nd to September 4th 2010 (Tuesday to Saturday), and on September 5th & 6th.
The projection lasts about 40 minutes.

The Image Mill time schedule :
June & July: 10 p.m.
August: 9:30 p.m.
September: 9 p.m.

The Image Mill is an architectural projection produced and performed, in Quebec City, by Robert Lepage and Ex Machina. Representing the largest projection ever done, it requires the use of fine technology to project a huge quantity of images and films on the grain silos of the Quebec Harbour, an oversized screen, 600 feet wide by 30 meters high! In the hands of the creators, this huge mass of concrete is in constant transformation, which gives us the strange impression of it being alive and talking to us. Leaving the usual clichés behind, we discover the fascinating history of Quebec City with its upheavals, its controversies, and its great political and popular moments.

The Image Mill was created as part of the festivities surrounding the 400th anniversary of Quebec City. Following the success of the 2008 edition, the work has been extended for another five years. There will be three phases of creation over these years; in 2009, 2011 and 2013, during which 20% of the content will be redesigned, improved or enhanced with new material.

“Because of its geographical location, urban planning and its history, Quebec City is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Extremely photogenic, it was first mapped and then drawn, engraved, painted, photographed and filmed. We have invented a mill that transforms, animates, presents and celebrates the 400 years of images of Quebec City. The images are almost all taken from archives that carry us as far as when Samuel de Champlain first drew Quebec City.” Robert Lepage
Where to see and listen to The Image Mill

To experience and appreciate the work at its best and in all its dimensions, people are encouraged to position themselves on the docks, between the Old Port Market, Dalhousie Street, and Quay Saint-André Street.
The Mill frequency: 97,5 FM

Those who want to watch the mega project from outside this area should tune in to 97,5 FM on their personal walkman to hear The Image Mill soundtrack simultaneously. You can also download the The Mill Frequency radio show in MP3 which contains thorough interviews with The Image Mill creators (in french).

The Invisible Paths, Cirque du Soleil

June 24th to September 5th, 2010

Cirque du Soleil will be presenting Les Chemins Invisibles in the streets of Quebec City during the summer 2010. This street event will take place at sunset, Wednesday to Sunday, until Labour Day.

Les Chemins Invisibles features 75 artists from various disciplines who bring the streets of the Saint-Roch neighbourhood to life with a performance that lasts 60 to 70-minutes in total.

Via Les Chemins Invisibles (The Invisible Paths), members of the Brumes, Brasiers and Sables (fog, fire and sand) tribes reveal the wealth that comes from mixing cultures and artistic genres when they come into contact with another tribe, the Embarrassants. These street performers invite the public to four events in the heart of Quebec City.

Each sporting its own primary colour, the three tribes-the Brumes, Brasiers and Sables-gather at the Îlot Fleurie under the Dufferin-Montmorency highway overpass using different routes. As night falls, they set up ingenious campsites for their rituals, which are rich in sound, imagery and movement. The juggling, dancing, singing and twirling performers invite the public to literally follow them along each of three separate paths to the Jardin des Embarrassants.

The piers and decks of the highway bridges are transformed into the arches of a surreal, colourful cathedral-a true temple of poetry.

Les Chemins Invisibles is a foray into the intimacy of urban characters, who transform the street into a meeting place that is open to the world.

Each tribe first gathers at the following locations for a short 10 minutes performance :

  • Brumes tribe:  On Saint-Dominique street, between Saint-Roch and de la Reine
  • Brasiers tribe:  Corner Du Pont street and Saint-Vallier east
  • Sables tribe:  Corner de l’Éperon street and Saint-Vallier east

The three tribes converge at the Îlot Fleurie for the final scene-a grand 40-minute-long circus “happening” featuring acrobatic performances, projections and special effects.

Wednesday to Sunday, June 24 to September 6, 2010. Gathering at sunset:
21 h 30 from June 24 to July 26
21 h 00 from July 29 to August 23
20 h 10 from August 26 to September 6
